Police believe that two ponies found dead this morning in Cornwall were murdered.
The owners of two Shetland ponies discovered the dead animals in their field at Carharrack near Redruth at about 10.30 this morning.
Police launched an investigation and said extensive local enquiries would be carried out today.
Detective Inspector Pete Simms, investigating officer, said: "It would appear that the ponies were killed in a deliberate act.
"However, whilst we are keeping an open mind, we do not believe that there is any link with the recent horse death at Stithians.
"We would appeal to all members of the local community and, in particular, horse owners for information about this incident.
"It is important that they remain vigilant and report any suspicious incident or activity to the police."
Enquiries are also being made to ascertain exactly how the ponies died.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police on 101, or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111, quoting reference DCP-20120624-0314.
